The uncertainty surrounding the conclusion of the Southern Region Super Cup has finally been put to rest after sponsors, Countrywide Car Hire and the SouthernRegion Football Association(SRFA). agreed to have the finals played in October.

The district finalists for the MK8 million competition launched in April, were already identified in May, but the cup could not be concluded due to lack of funding.

SRFA chairman, Raphael Humba, confirmed in an interview onTuesday that the waiting for the completion of the tournament was now over as the sponsors had nodded for the district finals to be staged early September.

“I must apologize to all the teams for the delay as you can see the deadline has passed. We had planned to have the district finals at least by the end of June, but that did not happen because of other hiccups. Nevertheless, I must commend Countrywide Car Hire for indicating that the sponsorship was still intact despite the three-month dormancy that increased further speculation that they had pulled out," Humba said.

“We wanted to have the districts finals during the month-end of August, but we have opted to shift them to early September to pave way for the Carlsberg Cup.

Thereafter, the district winners will join the race at the regional phase where they clash with Premier and Division One teams.”

Countrywide Car Hire's managing director, Mike Mlombwa, also confirmed on Tuesday that some logistical setbacks that were leading to the delay of the tournament, had been sorted out.

“I know the silence in recent months raised further speculation that we had pulled out, which we haven’t, but I can assure you the sponsorship is there and I have given our partners (SRFA) the go-ahead to conclude the tournament. We are geared and prize money is readily available," Mlombwa said.

The districts champions will receive MK100,000 whilst the regional champions will cart home MK1,000,000.
